Having a friend who’s suicidal can be pretty confronting. It can feel daunting, but there are things you can do to help.
If you, or someone you know, is feeling suicidal you should contact emergency services (call 000), your doctor, or get in touch with a mental health crisis centre such as Lifeline or the Suicide Call Back Service. Do not leave a suicidal person on their own unless you are worried about your own safety.

While everyone experiences things differently, A person who is thinking about suicide will usually give some clues or signs to those around them that indicate they are distressed. These are often referred to as suicide warning signs. These may include:
- Talking about suicide - Frequently talking about death - Expressing a sense of hopelessness - Feelings of isolation - Changes in mood and behaviour - Isolation or feeling alone - Emotional outbursts - Risk taking behaviour - Self-harming - Giving things away and saying goodbye Talking to someone about suicidal thoughts and feelings can be very difficult.
